We’ll be using this area of our site to write about company news, discuss the communications infrastructure and real estate industries, and share more general ideas about business, investing and entrepreneurship.
It’s been about two years since I incorporated Shared Network Canada, and the first year was mostly about planning and fundraising. In the last 12 months, we’ve built and acquired a few communication towers, entered into lease agreements and commenced municipal consultation for many more, and spent a lot of time thinking about the best ways to grow the business.
Competition is great, but so is collaboration, so we’re hoping to spend as much time as possible in the coming months and years chatting with and learning from others in our industry. We’ll be meeting with as many customers, competitors, partners and vendors as we can, and some of what we learn will end up in posts here.
We’re particularly interested to meet with people seeking a financial and strategic partner for communications infrastructure projects, so please get in touch if you are looking for debt or equity financing in areas related to our business. It also goes without saying, but I’ll say it anyway: there is never a bad time to get in touch if you’re a potential employee or contractor.
Even though it’s apparently now untrue, I believe in the 10,000 hours rule, at least in the general sense that the devil is in the details, and you have to spend a lot of time in any industry truly to understand the details. I’ve personally worked in the telecommunications infrastructure world for about eight years, and my team’s combined experience adds many decades to this number.
Shared Network feels like it’s at a stage where we understand our business model well and can repeat it effectively. However, we’re always looking for incremental improvements in our knowledge and experience, and happy to assist others in developing the same. That’s why we’re here.
